Do you remember that day Tyler? First off, let me thank you for that amazing introduction. I do. I totally understand what you went through, having gone through something very similar myself when I first started out. It was a pleasure to help, and if you ever need me again, well, you know where I am. ;-)
So... not only do I owe her a huge thank you for that, but there is something else she did. She popped my M/M reading cherry, hers was the first. It was just a couple months after I wrote Twisted Cherry, that I decided it might be a good idea to actually read one myself. Something amazing took place that day.
Anyway, I’ll include more links at the bottom of the blog for you, including her author page, etc. The normal stuff. So now, I'll quit rambling and get to the questions.
Where did you come up with the idea for Beyond Honor? Do you have military ties? There’s a really cool story about that. I had written several books under my real name, Robin Badillo, which never seemed to get off the ground. While I’d read a couple of MM romances before, it hadn’t occurred to me to write one myself until one day the parents of my youngest daughter’s friends called and asked if they could drop by with a story proposal. As an author, people suggest story ideas all the time, sometimes out of the blue, sometimes standing in the grocery line at the supermarket. (True story) You never know when it will happen and what genre suggestion will be. I’ve heard some doosies!
Anyway, when they suggested a MM military story, I was skeptical. Not even remotely sure I could do it, I feared I wouldn’t do the subject matter justice, but told them I would try. It was nearly six months or so later that I finally discovered the voice of my inner gay man, but when I did, Tyler Robbins was born, essentially changing the course of my career.
Well, thank goodness for that, because what you write is amazing and I really enjoy it. I can totally relate about the story idea suggestions. Hahahaha. How many books do you have out all together now? I have around twenty-two books published under both names combined. Eight of those stories are Tyler’s’ MM erotic romances.
Are they all M/M military reads? If not, what are the others you have available? Two are completely military related, one is a paranormal, all male ménage with vampires, two have wolf shifters (the first of which is a novella featured in Evernight’s Alpha's Claim Manlove Anthology ), and the remaining three feature downhome country boys. All of the stories take place in Texas.
Are any of your stories based on real life people? No, but I like to think they’re all the kind of people I would be friends with if they were.
If you could only pick one from all the stories you’ve written, which would be your favorite and why?
Beyond Honor has always been my favorite, but I’ve come to love my Blue Haven Boys series too. With only one story published, it’s still in its early stages of coming together, but each character has waited patiently for me to get to them. I owe them the best stories I can give them.
Beyond Honor is special to me because, like I mentioned, it was my M/M cherry popper. Even though I had written the one, yours was the first and it taught me a lot. Okay, I hate this question when asked, therefore, I have to ask it too. Lol. Who is your favorite author? I know it sounds like I’m ducking this answer whenever I’m asked, but I really don’t have a favorite. I can tell you that when I’m in a funk, I tend to re-read Avril Ashton’s books, but since I’m one of her beta readers, I’m not exactly neutral where her writing is concerned.
Oh you lucky…lady. Love Arvil and so jealous now-hahaha. So tell me, are you a plotter or pantster? Total pantster myself. Sadly, I am in transition now. My pantster style has failed me as of late, so to get over a bad case of writer’s block, I’m striving to get my mojo back with a little plotting. We’ll see how that works out.
Tell me something weird about yourself? Weird? There are so many things to choose from. Okay, how about this? Whenever I eat M&Ms, they must be color coordinated. My kids tease me relentlessly and have been known to mix up my organization if I ever leave them on my desk unattended. They can be real a**holes sometimes. J
Bwahhahaaha. Now that was a good answer, love it and have to love the kiddos too. Where do you see yourself in 5 or 10 years from now? With any luck and a whole lot of prayers, I’ll be completely content and supporting myself with my writing.
What are you currently working on? Can we get a teaser? Oh that’s a loaded question. While suffering from writer’s block, I have a lot of irons in the fire, but none ready for submission. I currently have two sequels in the works. One for the Blue Haven Boys Series and the other is the follow up for Broken Neon. I’m halfway through my first ever MMF vampire ménage, one story is about angels, and I have yet another about a “male escort” and his boss. Needless to say, I have plenty of material to tease you all with. How about a little unedited ADULT scene from Broken Neon: Undercover Blue?
Oh yessss... Okay everyone, preparation is key and she knows how to leave you drooling. You know what you need...
He got to his feet, his gaze never leaving the piercing blue of Travis’s hungry eyes. God, he wanted this man. Wanted him in more ways than he’d ever imagined he would. He wanted to do things to Travis that scared him to death, but at the same time, he wanted to love him. Show him the tenderness he was capable of despite how weak that might have made him appear.
Angel reached down and rubbed himself, his eyelashes fluttered at the thrilling sensations blasting across his body.
Travis hauled himself up a bit, just enough to spread his legs and sit with his knees bent, his tightened balls dangled between his legs. Gooseflesh pelted his skin, causing his chest hair to appear electrified and stiff. Travis’s chest rose and fell and his stomach rolled with each escalating breath further accentuating his muscular six-pack. Angel felt the energy radiating from him.
Angel unzipped his pants and let them fall to the floor, his boxers along with them. His cock sprang up against his lower abdomen, hard and hot. He palmed it and slowly stroked himself, savoring the way Travis licked his lips as he stared at Angel’s working hand.
He crawled onto the bed and Travis wriggled again, scooting lower. His arms now stretched above his head. On his knees, Angel slowly made his way Travis’s side. “You look so fucking sexy laying there like that.”
Travis instantly spread his legs, writhing his ass against the mattress. His gaze so hot, his eyes glistened.
“You know how hard it is to look at you every day. Knowing that any one of those bastards would sacrifice you in a heartbeat to save their own asses?” He towered over Travis, his gut tensing from the stress of it all. “My attorney. The mouthpiece of the San Antonio connection … and the way Martin looks at you…” He shook his head. “He thinks you’re in his pocket, too.”
What writing and publishing plans or goals do you have for 2015? I hope to publish new installments of my Blue Haven Boys series at least every other month as well as a few stand-alone titles I have swarming around in my head. Although MM, they’re all different sub-genres.
Okay just one final question for you Tyler. Why is it that we have yet to go to lunch, dinner, or hell even the bar? Hahaha! We’re only what, twenty minutes from each other here in Texas. Haha! My only excuse is that I’ve been shut up in the house writing so long, I’ve become a hermit … or a vampire. I can’t remember which.
I know what you mean. The life of a writer is all in their head. Thank you so, so very much for being a part of my blog here on the new website. And woo hoo also for being the author of the month here. If you haven’t had a chance to check out Tyler Robbins yet, you really are missing out on some amazing writing. If you’d like to know more about her, I’ll make it easy. Here's the stalker links, you know what to do.
